I heard the discussions on the radio about the hardship of our senior single pensioners. I don't think the government can solve the problem over night. Facing the aging population, we need family and community solution.
Old people not just need money, but respect, care and love. Chinese community used to have a good tradition of respect the senior and care for the young, but now, in this country, the government takes all the burden and children stopped looking after their aged parents. I once interpreted for an old lady who was waiting for the nursing home; she was very sad and told me that her daughter has four houses but she had nowhere to go.
We need to keep good community spirit and tradition, respect and care for the old people. We have child support, some country have parents support, like China, where sons and daughters have to pay money into their aged parents' account to support them. Reversed mortgages could also assist to support people in their old age - they can still stay in the house, but when they die, the bank can get the house and their children can get the remaining.
