Date: 12 April 2008
Federal Minister for Housing, the Hon Tanya Plibersek, will have a unique opportunity to hear first hand what life as a homeless person means when she attends a public forum on homelessness in Sydney on Thursday 17 April.
The forum, New Approaches to Homelessness…Real People, Real Changes, Real Hope, is being organised by the Homeless Persons’ Legal Service (HPLS) (a joint initiative of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre and the Public Interest Law Clearing House) and will feature contributions from a number of homeless people.
The Homeless Persons’ Legal Service started in May 2004 and now has nine clinics across Sydney. In that time, more than 1,800 homeless people have received free legal advice.
Debuting on the night will be a short film by student volunteers from the UTS, which documents the work of the HPLS.
