THE Team Beattie website was launched on 17 February 2003 by Queensland Premier Peter Beattie, exactly two years after his Government's historic 2001 election victory. Some of the benefits to members include:

Peter Beattie profile
Peter Beattie has been Premier of Queensland since June 26, 1998. He was born on November 18, 1952, the youngest of seven children. He was brought up by his grandmother in Atherton, nearly 2,000 kilometres north of Brisbane.

He was a Scout, played hockey, cricket and rugby league, and was school captain and dux of Atherton State High School. It was there that he met Heather, the childhood sweetheart to whom he is still happily married. Peter and Heather have three teenage children.

He moved to Brisbane to study law at Queensland University and supported himself while studying with jobs such as taxi driving and working in a canning factory before becoming a solicitor. His qualifications now include B.A., LL.B., M.A.

After joining the Labor Party in 1974, Mr Beattie took a major role with the late Dr Denis Murphy in reforming the Queensland branch of the Party before being elected State Secretary in 1981. In 1989, he was elected to Parliament as the Member for Brisbane Central. From July 1995, he served as Health Minister before becoming Opposition Leader on February 19, 1996.

His interests include economics and trade development, health, local government, housing, criminal law reform, transport, heritage, town planning, urban planning and inner city development. He is the author of the autobiographical In the Arena and a thriller, The Year of the Dangerous Ones. His latest book is Making a Difference: Life, Leadership And Politics, which charts a remarkable period in Queensland politics.

Peter is a member of many diverse organisations, including the Greek Club, Lions, Queensland Rugby League Club, New Farm Neighbourhood Centre, Chinese Business Association New Farm Bowls Club and the Society of St Andrew of Scotland (Qld), Queensland Railway Employees Union, Queensland Association for Mental Health.
