By Bill Johnston, WA Branch State Secretary
Date: 05 December 2007
Welcome to the November edition of the State Secretary’s Report.
This is your victory
Congratulations on helping Labor achieve an historic
election victory! This victory belongs to every Party Member and all
supporters that helped on the Kevin 07 campaign -- you made the difference at
this election.
I am proud that so many ordinary Australians joined together to voice their opposition to the stale Howard government. Together, your time and effort gave Labor the boost it needed to win this election.
Labor achieved a fantastic result across the country but we must also keep in mind the local result in Western Australia. Stephen Smith ( Perth), Gray Gray (Brand), Melissa Parke (Fremantle) and Sharryn Jackson (Hasluck) achieved great wins in their seats and have been elected to Parliament. They will get to work immediately with the Rudd Labor Government to implement our agenda.
In the northern suburbs, two great candidates -- Liz Prime and Peter Tinley -- narrowly lost their battles for Cowan and Stirling, respectively. They ran great campaigns and spent countless hours on the campaign trail. Everyone in the Party is grateful for the amazing effort they put into the campaign.
Counting is still underway in Swan, however Labor's sitting Member, Kim Wilkie, is narrowly behind the Liberal candidate. Kim worked hard throughout the campaign and we applaud his contribution regardless of the result.
We should also remember that Labor achieved great swings throughout WA in very difficult Liberal-held seats thanks to our hard-working candidates. Again, these Party Members sacrificied a great deal to support Labor and we sincerely appreciate all of their efforts.
This is an exciting time, and we have much to look forward to with a Rudd Labor Government. Thank you for all of your help during the Federal election!
